In their recent learning wrap-up, Grade 5 students took part in a Model United Nations (MUN) simulation, where each student represented a country and engaged in discussions on global issues connected to human well-being. Before entering the debate, students explored the context of their assigned countries – from social and environmental conditions to specific challenges – as preparation for building their arguments.

From climate change and deforestation to education, poverty reduction, and gender equality, the discussions revealed that human well-being is shaped by interconnected factors rather than isolated issues. By stepping into different perspectives, students practiced listening, questioning, and refining their viewpoints, demonstrating open-mindedness, communication skills, and a strong sense of collaboration within the PYP framework.

The South Korea delegation stood out for their strong sense of inquiry, consistently raising questions that deepened the discussions. This process of questioning and critical exchange opened up new perspectives, allowing students to approach issues in a more comprehensive and multi-dimensional way.

Through this experience, students further developed empathy, critical thinking, and an awareness of their role in a broader world – where every voice, no matter how small, has the potential to make a difference.
